DOTR: LRT-1 Cavite extension construction set on April

Manila, Philippines – After years of delay, the construction of the extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) is finally pushing through, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced.

“The actual construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension from Baclaran to Bacoor, Cavite will start on April,” the department said on Monday.

The LRT-1 currently has 20 stations from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in Pasay City.

The 11.7-kilometer railway extension project will have eight stations from Baclaran in Paranaque City to Bacoor in the province of Cavite.

The new stations will be at Aseana, Manila International Airport, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. A. Santos stations in Parañaque City, Las Piñas and Zapote stations in Las Piñas City, and Niog station in Bacoor, Cavite.

It is expected that travel from Baclaran to Bacoor would be reduced to 30 minutes from the current one and a half hours during rush hours.

DOTr and LRT are eyeing to finish the project by fourth quarter of 2021.

The extension project is expected to increase the entire LRT-1 passenger load from 300,000 to 800,000 per day once the extension is completed.
