Manila, Philippines – A Filipina tourist has gone missing in Bali, Indonesia while on vacation for more than two weeks now, says the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday, January 17.

The woman was identified as Ella Balmaceda Paaño, who left the Philippines last December 22.

According to reports, Paaño was set to meet up with a Russian friend whom she worked with in a resort in Coron, Palawan on the same day she left the country.

“Our hunch is that [the Russian friend] has something to do with our sister going missing,” quoting what Ella’s sister, Eden Paaño Oliveros, said in Filipino during a phone interview with Coconuts Manila.

Oliveros added that they had been talking with Ella everyday through video calls before she went missing. Their last contact with her was on Christmas Eve.

The following day, Ella’s family noticed she was inactive on her Facebook account, even her cellphone number cannot be contacted.

DFA said that it has already requested the assistance of authorities in Indonesia to locate Paaño.

Paaño is from Pasacao, Camarines Sur in Bicol, but had been working as a resort manager in Coron.
