Manila, Philippines – The 54th Infantry (Magilas) Battalion (54IB) troops have successfully facilitated the reunion of a former rebel fighter named “Ka- Iyong” to his emotional mother at Battalion Headquarters 54IB, 5ID, PA, Tiger Hill, Sitio Ibulao, Kiangan, Ifugao in the morning of November 30, 2018.

Ka-Iyong was rescued together with another young former fighter “Ka-Cindy” in the recent encounters in Brgy Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao.

Reportedly, the soldiers of 54IB and the Staff of Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) of Ifugao, with the help of the Ifugao Peasant Movement (IPM) based in Lagawe, conducted lateral coordination, dialogues regarding the accommodation, assistance and other necessary requirements for the meet up of Ka Iyong and his mother.

During the reunion, LTC Narciso Nabulneg Jr., the Commander of 54IB gracefully received and welcomed the mother of Ka Iyong with the Staff of PSWD Ifugao at the troops’ headquarters.

The mother emotionally embraced her long lost son with tears of joy and happiness, now that she’s able to touch her son physically.

The former young fighter, while also crying, comforted his mother as he asks for forgiveness for what he has done.

Ka-Iyong’s mother, Annalyn expressed her gratitude in return.

“Ako po ay lubos na nagpapasalamat at taos pusong nagagalak sa mga kasundaluhan ng makita ko na buhay ang aking anak sapagkat ako ay alalang-alala sa nangyaring enkwentro, bagkus siya ay inaruga ng mga sundalo.” she said
