Newly inaugurated Mactan-Cebu International Airport (ctto) |
On Thursday, President Rodrigo Duterte led the inauguration
of Terminal 2 of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu City.
The newly opened airport will be transformed into the “world’s
friendliest airport” as planned by the Department of Transportation.
It is a 65,500- square meter terminal that is expected to
increase the airport’s passenger capacity to 12.5 million.
The chief executive was awed by the airport’s beauty.
“It is exciting to see that we have come this far in letting
our kababayans and visitors see and experience real and lasting change. As one
of the finest airports in Asia, this facility showcases the best of what the
Philippines has to offer,” Duterte said in his speech during the event.
“I was awed when I started to walk towards this place. The
airport is very beautiful. I am jealous because I was mayor of Davao for 23
years, I suppose that I’d also like the Davaoeños to enjoy an airport as
beautiful as what you have here,” he said.
The Terminal 2 airport is part of the president’s Build,
Build, Build infrastructure development program.
With this, Mactan-Cebu International Airport is now the second
largest Airport in the country and also one of the busiest.
“The construction of this world-class transportation
facility shows that government and our private sector partners are committed to
provide our people with the necessary infrastructure that enable them to live
more comfortable, productive and meaningful lives,” the president further said.
Duterte commended the Department of Transportation as well
as the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority and the GMR-Megawide Cebu
Airport Corp. for the newly constructed terminal.
